Eveleigh Farmers Market on Saturday

JR has asked that I write a blog about my Sydney adventures.  So this will be an occasional blog about what I have been getting up to during the month that I will have been in Sydney, ostensibly to watch the Tour de France on free-to-air TV.

The wonderful thing about Australia is they have two state owned broadcasters.  The ABC which is advertisement free and SBS which has a few advertisements but nothing like what we have on our TV back home.  SBS are the broadcaster for the TdeF and they do a good job of it.

Getting to Sydney this time was a bit more of a challenge as a few days before I left to come over I got a message to say that my flight to Sydney had been cancelled and they would be booking me on an alternative flight.  After a day of not having heard from them and due to fly out the next day I got a bit concerned so rang Air New Zealand.  It seems they had a couple of options for me, one was to go via Auckland and the other was via a Qantas flight.  I decided that going via Air NZ might be a better option given the recent feedback about Qantas.

The flights were fine and on the flight to Sydney one now gets snacks without having to pay which was very nice.

Bev retired officially on the 27th of July so we went out to celebrate at a favourite restaurant just down the line.  We had a very nice bottle of Te Mata Bullnose Syrah 2011.  It was ready to drink and quite moorish and complemented the food nicely.

The Tour started on Sunday morning for us in the southern hemisphere so I was up early to enjoy the opening stage of Tour from Florence to Rimini.  It was most interesting given the difficulty of the stage and the heat which caused one rider to be vomiting from the heat stress.
