A boat ride on Sydney Harbour
Two days later we began childminding part two.
This time it was the other son's children who needed some entertaining. They live in Caringbah which is in the south of metropolitan Sydney near Cronulla. It is about an hour and a half from Pymble by train or a bit over an hour by car. We prefer public transport as we can read books or play games while being transported. However, there is the occasional irritant of people deciding they want you to listen to both sides of a telephone call or their music or their other viewing pleasures.
The day promised to be sunny and warm so ideal for being outside. Bev decided that we would take them to Watson's Bay. So a trip to Caringbah was taken to get the children who fortunately were ready when we arrived. We both had backpacks to take books and other forms of entertainment.
Bev took charge of entertainment on the journey to Circular Quay. Fortunately they are now old enough to be marginally sensible about not running off in some random direction. And more importantly seemed to tolerate quite well the travel as we were worried they would get bored after ten minutes. On the ferry they asked me questions about where we were and about ships that they could see. I was pleased to be able to answer them.
It was a perfect day for being on the harbour. The wind was light and sun shone brightly for that time of the year. We arrived in time for fish and chips at Doyles by the Sea. Bev and I queued up behind a number of visitors who had the same idea as us. Fortunately the queue moved quickly and the F&C came quickly as well. The kids had chicken nuggets as they were the only kids meals available. I sometimes despair as to how to get today's children to eat more than chicken nuggets and chips.
That said our F&C were really nice. The batter was crisp, the fish tender and flaky, and the chips large and crisp. Much better than the last time we had them there a few years ago.
We sat in the sun enjoying the midwinter warmth and eating our lunch with a view back toward the harbour bridge and the CBD providing the backdrop. It was very beautiful. I do like Sydney Harbour it does make the city. Multi-million dollar homes rise up from the waterfront, some beautiful and others down right ostentatious and ugly. All with aim of showing off wealth. And there is plenty of it in the city.

After a walk and an ice-cream we caught ferry back to Circular Quay and then took the long journey back to Bev's apartment via Caringbah. We were rather tired when we arrived back after 11 hours of child minding and travel!
