Mission Impossible - to see Tom Cruise
On Monday we decided to go into the city to have some Yum Cha in Chinatown and then to visit the Museum of Sydney where there was an exhibition of the building of the Opera House.
We found a place to have Yum Cha, the food was ok (I've had better) but the service was rubbish. Afterwards we wandered through Chinatown and then to Darling Harbour. Chinatown and Darling Harbour have been transformed since I first went there in 1988 when development was starting. Now it is all pedestrianised which makes it delight to be in but on warm summer days it is very crowded. I think the open space and the opportunity for children to play is an attraction.

As we wandered along toward Barangaroo we noticed a crowd of people and some red "carpet" outside the convention centre. Ever curious we wandered over to see what it was all about. On first glance it seemed like it was all to do with the new Mission Impossible movie. I assumed it was the premiere and that as it was made in Sydney that Tom Cruise might be making an appearance. I told Bev my assumptions and given the crowd that had gathered we assumed that he must be about to make an appearance with all the other celebrities and other hangers on.

We stood there for ages and to entertain myself I made up stories about the various people that arrived. It was appreciated for the most part by Bev and a couple of other around us. There were the security people of all shapes and sizes including an "Oddball" look alike standing near us. He had to get someone to do his tie given size of his neck. Mind you he was not the only one as there were others who were not familiar with putting on tie.
Some the media women had really dressed up so I assume they were going to the screening and after party.

There were a couple of young women who had brought a present and a posy for Tom Cruise. It was quite fascinating. I looked up on the internet to see when the real action was going to happen and it turned out to be around 6pm. We had already been there for nearly two hours and I needed to go to the toilet and my feet were hurting so Bev reluctantly gave up her spot to a much younger person.
We finished off a day, that was not quite how we planned it, with a drink in a little basement bar called Lobo.
