Dinner at the O Bar and Restaurant

A cousin of Bev was celebrating her 60th and had invited Bev and her plus one to go along.  I was fortunate to be that person.  So on Friday last week we got into our glad rags and headed into the city.

The restaurant is in Australia Square a rather large building that has a circular restaurant that revolves at the top of it (a full revolution takes about 2 hours).  I was rather looking to forward to the event and we headed off early on train hoping to have a drink in one of the many bars nearby.  As it turned out we got there on time and were treated not only to a rather delightful prosecco to start with that was far better than others I have had.  It was that or the view.  There were 17 guests and a private room had been arranged for us to dine in.

After the aperitif we were seated.  There was a stampede to get the seats with the view and unfortunately Bev and I were seated with our back to it.  It was not a problem as the conversation we participated in was lively and interesting and of course the food was rather good.  I started with a Yellowfin Tuna tataki & spanner crab. It was great except the crab was part of the rice and was overwhelmed by the flavourings.  Then it was the Citrus Butter roasted Murray Cod which is a freshwater fish that can be very large.  It was interesting in that unlike a blue cod it was clearly freshwater flavour and maybe a bit of mud thrown in. It was beautifully cooked.  Finally I had a Hot Passionfruit Souffle that was wonderful.  The wines were good.  I tried a Tasmanian Pinot Gris, a Mornington Peninsular Chardonnay and a Barossa Shiraz.  All very good as one might expect in such a restaurant.

It was a real treat and both of us enjoyed ourselves immensely.  It is probably the best restaurant I have been to in Sydney in terms of the quality of the food.

Then we wandered in slightly tipsy mood (shades of Tory Whanau) back to the station finding a train arriving a couple of minutes later to take us back to Pymble.
